SUMMARY:Lecture: In Pursuit of Paradox: How we learn about God and the Cosmos
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to join us on Wednesday\, February 1st at 7 pm\, in our parish hall\, for a lecture on the Pursuit of Paradox: How we learn about God and the Cosmos\, presented by Dr. Jenna Freudenburg.   \nBeing humans\, we want to understand the mysteries of the world we inhabit. One of the most puzzling mysteries in science is the fact that the fabric of our universe is expanding at an ever-increasing speed. To understand the relationship between this unexpected behavior and the contents of the cosmos\, scientists are pushing current theories to their breaking point in hopes of inspiring a new understanding of how the universe works. \nThis blueprint for gaining understanding by seeking out contradictions goes beyond the scientific world: it is applicable in religious life as well. In this talk\, Dr. Jenna Freudenburg will discuss how pursuing paradox can lead to both knowledge of the natural world and knowledge of God. \nDr. Freudenburg is a postdoctoral fellow in Astronomy and Astrophysics at the University of Toronto. In addition to an PhD in astronomy\, she holds a Master’s degree in Science and Religion from the University of Edinburgh.

SUMMARY:Isaac Hecker and the Journey of Catholic America
DESCRIPTION:Is the Holy Spirit moving you to find out more about His role in your life? Have you ever wondered why the second reading is always a letter from St. Paul that reflects on the workings and guidance of the Holy Spirit? The Toronto Paulist Associates would like to introduce you to one of the greatest American Catholic missionaries and saints of the 19th century who\, like St. Paul\, underwent a conversion and was driven by the Holy Spirit to preach the Good News to secular America using media tools of the modern age. Dare to be moved by the Holy Spirit – plan your night out to a screening of ISAAC HECKER AND THE JOURNEY OF CATHOLIC AMERICA which will take place on February 9th at 7:00 p.m. in the church auditorium. Who knows where He will lead you.

SUMMARY:Bible Study on the Gospel of Matthew
DESCRIPTION:We will be recommencing our weekly Faith Study starting this coming Thursday\, February 16\, from 7 PM to 8:45 PM. This semester\, we’ll be working through the Gospel of Matthew during the Lenten season and up to Easter.  \nThis Gospel was particularly beloved by the Early Church\, being the most quoted of any of the Four Gospels\, and being placed at the beginning of the New Testament because of its great prominence and importance in revealing Jesus Christ as the fulfillment of all redemptive history. \nAt the height of his ministry\, Jesus turned to his disciples and asked them two fundamental questions found only in this gospel account:  \n1) Who do PEOPLE say that I am? and\, 2) Who do YOU say that I am?  \nThese are the most important questions that all people\, including us in the Church\, must answer. And our answer makes all the difference both for this life and the life to come. And so these two questions will be the guiding points of our journey through the Gospel of Matthew in the coming weeks. All are welcome to join us beginning this Thursday\, February 16\, at 7 PM. Looking forward to seeing many of you there! God bless.
