SUMMARY:Bible Study on the Gospel of Luke
DESCRIPTION:After being in the wilderness of Judea for forty days and forty nights\, alone\, famished\, and weak\, Jesus was tempted by Satan to make loaves of bread from the stones around him\, to prove his power\, to alleviate his suffering. The Lord turned to his tempter and answered\, “It is written: man will not live by bread alone\, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.”   \nDuring the upcoming “wilderness” season of Lent\, a time when we imitate Christ’s fast from the good things in our lives to pursue a deeper and lasting communion with our God\, we will be following the example of Jesus in nourishing ourselves with the word of God\, studying the stories\, teachings\, patterns\, and promises found in the God-breathed Gospel of Luke. As we read this book from start to finish we will open ourselves up to discover on every page the Word of God made flesh\, and challenge each other to live lives transformed by this same Word. \nBeginning February 23\, 2022\, join us every Wednesday evening for ten weeks at 7:00 PM at St. Peter’s Church as together we strive to “live by every word that comes from the mouth of God.” On Ash Wednesday\, March 2\, 2022\, we will meet immediately after the parish’s 7:00 PM Ash Wednesday Mass.

DESCRIPTION:What does it mean to say\, “I believe”? \nFor thousands of years\, The Creed has arguably been the most recognizable confession of faith amongst Christians. As social\, political\, cultural\, and religious turmoil of all kinds have threatened God’s people throughout the centuries\, this confession has stood as a signal fire of the Church’s unique and distinct identity in the midst of an ever-changing world. To this day\, Catholics\, Orthodox\, and Protestants alike profess The Creed at Baptisms and Confirmations\, during Holy Masses\, and even in prayers and songs. More than just a mindless recitation of religious words\, The Creed is truly meant to act as a repeated pledge of allegiance\, a constant renewal of vows before God\, a continual commitment to conform our lives according to all that we claim to believe. And yet\, just like so many of the gifts we receive\, The Creed can be so easy to take for granted\, and we can quickly forget and lose sight of its true worth. \nOver the course of 12 weeks this Fall we will dive into this ancient yet ever-present treasure of our faith. For that reason\, Father Frank Desiderio will not be here to give our parish’s Lenten retreat this year. Learn to Forgive and Get on With Your Life can be purchased at the parish office. \nPlease mark your calendars to attend our Parish Lenten retreat on forgiveness. Fr. DESCRIPTION:The 40 days of Lent are a special time of spiritual renewal in the Church.   Lent begins on Ash Wednesday. The parish will have three Masses on Ash Wednesday with the distribution of Ashes. These will be at 8:00 AM\, 12:10 PM and 7:00 PM in the Church. During Lent the Stations of the Cross will be prayed Friday evenings in the Church. On the First and Last Fridays the stations will follow the 7:00 PM Mass. On other Friday they will be prayed at 7:00 PM.
