Each child is a gift from God to be celebrated. Baptism is the sacrament which allows us to share in the death and resurrection of Christ. Through it, the individual is cleansed form original sin and receives the gift of the Holy Spirit by which he or she is established in relationship with Christ. The sacrament of Baptism begins one’s life in the Church. A person may be baptized as an adult or as a child. When a person is baptized as an adult, he or she is consciously choosing to form a relationship with Christ and His Church. They are invited to join the parish community where they will celebrate the sacrament of Baptism. When an infant is baptized, he or she is baptized into the faith of their parents. They are to be baptized at the parish where the parents or the mother or father are practicing their faith. The Rite of Infant Baptism points out beautifully: “Parents are the first teachers of their children in the ways of the faith.” It goes on to pray may they be the “best of teachers.” It is important that parents be practicing the faith they wish to hand on to their children. The parish of St. Peter’s is very happy to celebrate the sacrament of Baptism for all children that are born to parents who are practicing their faith at St. Peter’s. In order to arrange for a baptism, you are invited to speak to one of the parish priests at the Sunday Mass which you attend. You can obtain a booklet that will explain to you Baptismal Preparation at the parish when you attend any one of the Sunday Masses. For those who are not attending Mass at this or any parish, the birth of a child can be a wonderful opportunity for the parents to renew their faith. Anyone who desires Baptism for their child has a desire to hand the faith on to them. Our faith is one that is nurtured from Sunday to Sunday at the community’s Eucharistic celebration. The parish community fervently invites all parents who wish to renew their faith as they prepare to baptize their children to consider attending any of our Sunday Masses which are celebrated on Saturdays at 5:00 pm and on Sundays at 9:00 and 11:15 am and 6:00 pm. If you have any apprehensions about taking this step, please call Fr. Michael or Fr. Yaw at 416-534-4219. The parish community looks forward to celebrating the baptism of the children of those who choose to renew the practice of their faith within this parish community. Once you have picked up a Baptismal Preparation Booklet at any one of our Sunday Masses, you will be invited to a preparation appointment with a member of the parish team. After this appointment a date will be arranged for the parents to attend one of the parish’s (more…)

The parish community of St. Peter’s in Toronto congratulates all parents on the birth of their children.
