We believe in the real presence of Jesus, who died for our sins. As we receive Christ’s Body and Blood, we also are nourished spiritually and brought closer to God. The Catholic Sacrament of Reconciliation (also known as Penance, or Penance and Reconciliation) has three elements: conversion, confession and celebration. In it we find God’s unconditional forgiveness; as a result we are called to forgive others. First Eucharist and Reconciliation are usually received by children aged 7 to 11 years old. At 7 a child is considered to have reached the age or reason, when they can tell the difference between right and wrong and understand that there is a special quality about receiving Christ’s Body and Blood. What is required to receive the Sacraments? Your child must be 7 years old at the time of the Sacraments and have been baptized in the Catholic faith. At St. Peter’s First Reconciliation is celebrated in March and First Eucharist takes place in May. If your child is 12 or older you may wish to enroll them directly into our confirmation program, where your child will receive both Sacraments. If your child has not been baptized or has been baptized in a different faith and you wish to proceed with the Sacraments of First Eucharist and Reconciliation, please contact us online or e-mail Lynett Wilson for more information. How do I enroll my child? All children, both in Catholic and Public schools must be enrolled in St. Peter’s program to receive the Sacraments of First Eucharist and Reconciliation. Enrolment takes place during August and September. Download the enrolment form and bring it into the office or e-mail it to Lynett Wilson. If your child was not baptized at St. Peter’s please provide a copy of the baptismal certificate when you register. A schedule of parent’s meetings and classes will be provided for you. What preparation is required? All First Reconciliation / Eucharist candidates, both in Catholic and Public schools, must take part in Sessions which will run on Saturday’s from 10:30 am to 11:45 pm. Sessions begin in January and run throughout the Easter season at St. Peter’s. Additional information and specific dates can be found here. All families are expected to participate in parent meetings and family gatherings scheduled at St. Peter’s. Take-home books and materials will be provided to all families. These materials are to aide in family conversations and ensure that all children understand the basics. Is there a cost? While there is no cost required to receive a Sacrament, parents are asked to provide a donation which will cover the costs of books and materials. The suggested amount is $80. These amounts are suggestions only and families may choose to give any amount.
