Lecture: In Pursuit of Paradox: How we learn about God and the Cosmos

You are invited to join us on Wednesday, February 1st at 7 pm, in our parish hall, for a lecture on the Pursuit of Paradox: How we learn about God and the Cosmos, presented by Dr. Jenna Freudenburg.
Being humans, we want to understand the mysteries of the world we inhabit. One of the most puzzling mysteries in science is the fact that the fabric of our universe is expanding at an ever-increasing speed. To understand the relationship between this unexpected behavior and the contents of the cosmos, scientists are pushing current theories to their breaking point in hopes of inspiring a new understanding of how the universe works.
This blueprint for gaining understanding by seeking out contradictions goes beyond the scientific world: it is applicable in religious life as well. In this talk, Dr. Jenna Freudenburg will discuss how pursuing paradox can lead to both knowledge of the natural world and knowledge of God.
Dr. Freudenburg is a postdoctoral fellow in Astronomy and Astrophysics at the University of Toronto. In addition to an PhD in astronomy, she holds a Master’s degree in Science and Religion from the University of Edinburgh.
