Bulletin for week of July 22, 2018
For the summer months the bulletin will be published every other week on the following schedule:
Welcome to St. Peter’s Parish. If you are a new parishioner, we ask that you please register. Forms are located at the main entrance of the Church, in the parish office and online. Once completed you may simply drop the registration form in the collection basket, give it to an usher or bring it to the church office. Registration is very important especially for any future sacramental celebrations. Also just as you care for your family and home, your parish also needs your faithful financial assistance. If you wish to use Sunday Offertory envelopes they are available at the back of the church. Please print your full name, address and your phone # on the envelopes in order to obtain a tax receipt for your total donations.
Thank you for your commitment to our parish’s Family of Faith campaign. To help ensure our parish benefits from your help on a timely basis, please make sure your payment information is up-to-date. Donations/payments can be sent directly to the Donations Processing Centre. The address is:

This past week, one of the local neighbours invited me to attend a movie with him at the Varsity Cinema. The movie that he asked me to attend with him was called: “Won’t You Be My Nieghbour.” This is a documentary about the children’s broadcaster Fred Rogers and his show for children, which was better known as the Mr. Roger’s Show. It tells of how Fred Rogers was preparing to study to be an ordained Presbyterian Minister. However, just as he was in the midst of his studies he encountered the new medium of television in the early 1960’s. As he watched television, he was concerned about the kind of entertainment that was directed towards children. He saw that all of the television shows produced for children did not take them very seriously and had rather mindless comedy at their centre. He was particularly concerned by the pretend violence that these shows directed towards young people. Fred Rogers believed in the value of each young person and thought a more important mission would be to produce television which took young people seriously and tried to let them know how much each of them was valued and loved. As Christians, we are invited to share the Good News with others. Today this can be done by inviting someone to consider joining the R.C.I.A. in the parish where they would like to attend Sunday Mass. The “R.C.I.A.” is the Rites of Christian Initiation of Adults. Through the celebration of these rites in their local parish community, individuals become members of the Catholic Church through their local parish community. These rites are accompanied by a catechetical process which educates those who are becoming Catholic in the teachings of Christ and the traditions of the Church that He established to continue His mission and spread the Good News.
Here at St. Peter’s those who wish to become Catholic are invited to begin attending Mass in our parish community each Sunday. As they do this, they are accompanied by the R.C.I.A team and meet on Tuesday evenings to learn about our faith, deepen in a prayer relationship with Jesus, and discover how they can find their place in our Christian community through Sunday worship, service of neighbour and prayer. The R.C.I.A. at St. Peter’s will begin in September. The group will meet throughout the length of the school year. The Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist) will be celebrated at Easter (April 21, 2019) and the group will continue to meet until the end of the Pentecost season (June 2019).
For those already Baptized in another Christian denomination a shorter path towards joining the Catholic Church may be possible, depending on their previous faith formation.
If you know anyone who might be interested in becoming Catholic, please invite them to consider joining the R.C.I .A. at the parish where they wish to attend Sunday Mass. If they wish to do so here at St. Peter’s, please have them give Fr. Michael a call for more information (416-534-4291, ext. 211).
Have a safe and enjoyable summer holiday. While you are away, the parish will continue to celebrate daily and Sunday Masses. Sadly, the bills do not take a holiday and still need to be paid for your Parish Church. Please continue to support your Parish Church throughout the summer. Happy Holidays!!!
