Starting a Social Justice Committee – Tuesday, May 8th at 7:00 PM

The Parish Community of St. Peter’s is a very socially conscious and active community. The parish hosts many outreach programmes. Despite that, we do not have a Social Justice Committee. Such a Committee would direct the parish’s efforts to study and understand the Church’s social teachings. In the hopes of starting a Social Justice Committee, Mr. Porfirio Garcia, from the Office of Faith Formation and Discipleship, will be visiting our parish to lead an evening discussion on hope to start a Social Justice Committee in our parish. Anyone who might be interested in assisting with this project is invited this important meeting on Tuesday, May 8th at 7:00 pm in the St. Paul’s room in the Centre at 830 Bathurst Street. Please consider coming!

Living the Gospel by caring for the elderly

Ever since Erika had a stroke, her diminished mobility kept her from enjoying many activities. When LA Centre for Active Living planned a trip to the Garlic Festival, Erika worried her disabilities would get in the way. To Erika’s delight, the ShareLife-funded agency ensured the trip was fully accessible for her. Having the most fun she’s had in years, she felt like her disabilities disappeared. Last year, ShareLife-supported agencies provided care to over 6,300 seniors.

May 27 is the next ShareLife Sunday.  Please give generously

Mass for Anointing of the Sick – Sunday, May 27 at 3:00 PM

The parish will celebrate a Mass with the Sacrament of the Anointing of the sick on Sunday, May 27, at 3 PM. The Sacrament of the sick can be celebrated for any person who is ill and in danger of death or elderly. The sacrament is intended to bring physical and spiritual healing to those who are seriously ill. It also asks God for the grace to accept the suffering that comes with serious illness or diminished health due to age. If this applies to you or anyone you know, please consider attending or telling others about this celebration.

Interview: Paulist Fr. James Haley: “There’s a force that’s with me…”

On the occasion of Paulist Fr. James “Jim” Haley’s 50th anniversary of becoming a priest, we learned about his life in the community. “Looking back, I wouldn’t change it for anything. I mean, how can a shy young man from Northern Nova Scotia ever end up the way I’ve ended up and been where I’ve been, you know, and experienced what I’ve experienced and met the people that I’ve met and lived in areas of the countries that I would never have experienced if not for being a Paulist and a priest?”
