Pentecost— Fulfilling the Promise to be With Us Until the End of the Ages!

12_make-disciples-final-1-622x1024In the Ritual for Infant Baptism, there are about a hundred different readings that can be used at a Baptism for a child. Despite this great variety, I find that I have used only one reading at almost all of the Baptisms that I have celebrated in my twenty-five years as a priest. The reading that I always use at Baptism is the same as that which we heard proclaimed last Sunday on the Solemnity of Christ’s Ascension into Heaven. To refresh your memories, the Gospel which was proclaimed last Sunday was the text from Matthew in which Jesus commissions His disciples to go out into the world and baptize all nations. The exact words that Jesus used are as follows: “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the ages” (Matthew 28: 19-20). What strikes me most about this passage is the amazing promise that Christ has made to all of us through our Baptisms: “Behold, I am with you always, until the end of the ages.” Christ promises all of us that He is with us always, forever, until the end of time.

Pentecost Sunday (Third Sharelife Sunday) June 4, 2017

Working with St. Elizabeth HealthCare, ShareLife, through Catholic Charities, has implemented a shared services initiative that has provided support to agencies in the areas of human resources (16 agencies) and financial services (5 agencies). Now in its fourth year of activity, agencies participating in this initiative report that they are able to improve the quality, competency and accuracy of their work in these areas. Some Executive Directors reported on the impact of this initiative to their agency. “It has enhanced our agency’s competence.” shares one Executive Director, “Before, I was in way over my head, but trying to do my best. Now, I have expertise at my disposal and feel comfortable.

Social Justice Committee

social_justiceThe Pastoral Council would like to put together a Social Justice Committee to identify areas in which our Parish could extend our outreach and educate our parishioners about important topics. If you would like to be on this Committee, or would like to find out more, please email the Parish office to be put on the mailing list. Our first meeting will be held in June.

During his years as a young camper at Camp Ozanam, Niro experienced significant moments of personal growth in his life, which had a lasting impact on him. Later on, he became a staff counselor at Camp Ozanam, where he now has the opportunity to become involved in and positively influence the lives of current camp participants. “When you are with your brothers at camp, it is okay to show your feelings. These memories become important, because these kids really get to know each other and stand by each other. Thank you, ShareLife, for all the work you do to make this possible at Camp Ozanam!” says Niro. Last year, ShareLife-supported Camp Ozanam provided a unique camping experience for 600 boys from underprivileged homes in the GTA.

St. Peter’s Young Adults- Pub Night!! May 28, 2017

pubnight3Are you in the Toronto area?  Are you curious about the St. Peter’s Young Adults Group or just plain thirsty? If so, you’re invited to join the St. Peter’s Young Adult Group for our monthly pub nights scheduled for every fourth Sunday of the month! Our next pub night is scheduled for Sunday, May 28, 2017, following the 6 pm mass.

Congratulations to Rev. Mr. Penn Dawson, sj

Deacon Penn Dawson, sj,  was ordained to the transitional diaconate this Saturday, May 20 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Deacon Dawson will be working in the parish during the coming school year. He is preaching at all of the parish Masses this Sunday. The parish welcomes him and his family this weekend. Please keep him in your prayers as we look forward to his working in our community beginning next September.
