Love Thy Neighbour – We’re more beautiful when we come together!

St Peter’s Seniors Wisdom group will be meeting on Thursday June 6, 2024, starting at 10:30 am in the Church auditorium. The theme Love Thy Neighbour is back just in time for Canada Day. We thought it would be wonderful to come together, united together as children of God, to enjoy various ethnic dishes in a potluck style gathering. I hope to see you all there, with your friends and family, and a dish specific to your culture, your country of origin, to share with everyone.  Food is more than sustenance; it is a blessing from God that nourishes our body and brings us together.

We are so fortunate to have a guest speaker come and share her story of when she immigrated to Canada from Colombia at the age of 19 and found hope in her Catholic faith.  Margarita went on to eventually work as a nurse with the Sisters of St. Joseph, at their private residence/hospital. She also led the 40 days for life campaign in Toronto, she is also part of the Natural Family planning in Toronto, she helps in Marriage Prep at various parishes, part of the Charismatic Renewal at Our Lady of Guadalupe church, and also a co-worker with the Sisters of Life, helping to minister to the Spanish speaking women they serve.  Margarita is also a wife, and a mother of 2 boys and 1 dog and a good friend. We also have Taichi Master Timothy back by popular demand, who will be joining us just after Margarita’s presentation. We are looking forward to spending time with all of you, during this time of sharing and community.  For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them~ Matthew 18:20

Pentecost 2024: Back to Basics: Sunday, Baptism, and Eucharist

The reading from the Gospel of John for this Pentecost Sunday, the last day of the Easter Season, takes us back to Easter Sunday, the day on which this Season began. It begins with the words: “It was evening on the day Jesus rose from the dead, the first day of the week.” These words situate this scene, like so many of the Gospel stories that we have heard on the Sundays throughout the Easter Season on Sunday, on the day Jesus rose from the dead. Whether it was the story of the disciples on the road to Emmaus, or the story of Doubting Thomas, so many of the stories of Christ’s appearing to His disciples in the Easter Season, have focused our attention on the fact that Christ appeared to his disciples after His resurrection as they were gathered together on a Sunday. One of my favorite reminders of the importance of Sunday is actually that which we read in the story from the Gospel of Luke, with the disciples on the road to Emmaus. Here, like today’s Gospel story, Jesus appears to His disciples on a Sunday and celebrates with them that memorial supper that He asked them to celebrate in memory of Him. This emphasis that we hear over and over again throughout the Easter Season on the importance of Sunday, is a powerful reminder to all of us that this is the day that Jesus rose from the dead. It is the day He invites us to celebrate together and be reminded of who we are as His people. Continue reading

All are welcome to join Dr. Egit who will present a talk on “Mothers and children” on Thursday, Mary 23 at 7:30 pm at St. Catherine’s room.

Do mothers have an impact on who we are as adults? How profound is that impact?
Can that impact, ever be changed if we want it to change ? Can we move beyond our upbringing?

Dr. Egit is a practicing psychotherapist/psychoanalyst. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Toronto and completed his analytic training at the Toronto Institute of Contemporary Psychoanalysis. (he will be happy to entertain questions and initiate a discussion as part of the presentation).”
