The Synod on Synodality: Come and Share Your Thoughts on the Church on March 31 and April 7, 2022!

Decorative ImagePope Francis has launched the Synod on Synodality, an ambitious two-year global process of listening to the faithful.

“Synod” comes from an ancient Greek word meaning “walking together on the road.” There have been many synods in the history of the Church, but these have traditionally been opportunities for bishops to come together to determine the path forward for the Church.

With the Synod on Synodality, Pope Francis is asking every Catholic to help discern what the Holy Spirit is telling us at this moment as the Church enters its third millennium.

The first phase of the Synod on Syndodality will last through the first half of 2022 and will see the world’s faithful sharing their thoughts at a diocesan level. All those diocesan-level responses will be collected and summarized. Then the bishops of Canada will meet to discuss what they heard in their respective dioceses, followed by larger multinational meetings and, ultimately, culminating in a synod of bishops in the Vatican in 2023.

Parishioners are invited to participate in this process by coming to two discussion evenings on Thursday, March 31st and Thursday, April 7th at 7:00 pm in the parish hall. The results of this discussion will be reported to the Archdiocese in order that they may be shared with Pope Francis.

If you wish to complete the survey on your own, you may do so by visiting: https://www.archtoronto.org/en/offices-and-ministries/sub-sites/synod/home/group/

Mass for the Solemnity of the Annunciation and the Consecration of Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary

Decorative ImageOn Friday, March 25th, 2022, the parish will celebrate an additional Mass at 12 noon for the Solemnity of the Annunciation and the Consecration of Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. This Mass will be in addition to the parish’s 8:00 a.m. Mass and Friday Lenten Mass at 7:00 p.m. The additional noon Mass will be celebrated at the same time as our local bishop and the Holy Father will be celebrating Mass at the cathedral and at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome to consecrate Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

On Friday, March 25th, 2022, the parish will also have adoration from 8:30 a.m., following the 8:00 a.m. Mass, until the Mass at noon to pray for peace in Ukraine.

Please come and celebrate this important solemnity, join in praying for the consecration of Russia and Ukraine, and praying for peace in Ukraine.

Please also consider praying this prayer for peace in Ukraine at home:

 God of реасе and justice,

we pray for the реорlе of Ukraine today.

We pray for реaсе and the laying down of weapons.

We pray for аll those who fear for tomorrow,

that your Spirit of comfort would draw near to them.

We pray for those with power over war or реасе,

for wisdom, discernment and compassion to guide their decisions.

Above аll, we pray for аll your precious children, at-risk and in fear,

that you would hold and protect them.

We pray in the name of Jesus, the Prince of Реасе.

Amen.

Someone to Talk to in a Difficult Time

Decorative ImageThese uncertain Covid times have shone a light on the pressing need for mental health support services.  St. Peter’s Parish and Dr. Egit have teamed up in addressing that need.

When is it time for mental health support?  The question is puzzling.  Are we; depressed enough, anxious enough, stressed enough, worthy enough?  Those are imponderable quandaries on which to base a decision.  The simpler questions are, “Have I been unhappy” and ,”Is my daily life a struggle?” If the answer is yes, then mental health supports are appropriate.

The service is free.  There are a limited number of hours dedicated to this program. Dr. Egit will be available for appointments Wednesdays between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Each appointment will be 45 minutes in length.  The sessions will be conducted online or by telephone. To arrange to speak with him, you are asked to call and book an appointment with the parish office (416-534-4219).

Dr. Egit is a psychotherapist and a psychoanalyst experienced in working with individuals and couples.  He holds an MA and a Ph.D. from The University of Toronto and had completed his psychoanalytic training and certification from the Toronto Institute of Contemporary Psychoanalysis.  He is registered with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario
