The Good Shepherd Mission in Toronto looks after many of the city’s homeless and helps them find a warm meal all year round. Each year they rely on the generosity of Torontonians who are able to donate food to make their mission possible. This year the parish will be sponsoring a Thanksgiving Food Drive to support the Good Shepherd Mission. Please consider donating canned tuna, canned meat, canned fruit or vegetables, canned soups and stews, peanut butter, jam, cereal teabags, instant coffee, cookies, rice, and crackers. Please no fresh fruits or vegetables or frozen food. Some parishes decorate their sanctuaries with flowers on the Thanksgiving weekend. Let us decorate ours with food to be offered to those in need. Please bring your non-perishable food donations to any of our Sunday Masses on the Thanksgiving weekend – October 6 & 7.
A six (6) week bereavement ministry support group will be starting at St. Peter’s (ministry centre) starting on Tuesday, September 18 to October 23 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. If you or someone you know is dealing with the loss of a loved one and would like to join this group, please register at the parish office (416-534-4219). Please be aware that the Archdiocese of Toronto has received multiple reports from parishes that criminals have created Gmail accounts in various pastors’ names, asking for iTunes gift cards for a sick friend in the hospital. If you receive this email, do not respond and forward the message to the Help Desk at helpdesk@archtoronto.org.
The Parish Community of St. Peter’s is a very socially conscious and active community, and participates in hosting many outreach programmes. Despite that, we do not have a Social Justice Committee. Such a Committee would direct the parish’s efforts to study and understand the Church’s social teachings. In the hopes of starting a Social Justice Committee, anyone who might be interested in assisting with this project is invited to this important meeting on September 27th at 7:00 pm in the Parish Centre: 830 Bathurst St. Please consider coming!
His Eminence Cardinal Collins will be here on Saturday, September 15th to celebrate the 5 PM Mass and bless the new Parish offices and outreach centre for the Sisters of Life. On that same day, the parish will host an open house so that parishioners may visit the new parish offices and centre. The open house will be from 2 – 4:30 pm.
“He has done all things well. He makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.” In fact, He, Jesus, has done much more than that. He has also destroyed death and given to each of us the gift of eternal life. It seems to me that this week’s Gospel and Sunday readings contain a very powerful reminder about what our faith is all about and where it is as Christians that we are really called to place our faith.
Beginning this weekend, September 8/9, the parish will return to the regular Sunday Mass Schedule:
