Palm and Passion Sunday

Jerusalem is, and has been for several millennium, a great walled city that must be entered through one of the several gates in the city’s wall. It is a holy and sacred city. For the Jews, Jerusalem is that city where God dwelt among His people in the great temple at which they could visit Him and offer Him sacrifices. In His Holy City, God would listen to His people and they could be assured that they were standing in His presence. Whenever there was a great feast for the Jewish people they would go up to the city of Jerusalem to be near to God and celebrate with Him. For the Jewish people to live within the walls of Jerusalem—the Holy City—was the perfect life; it was equivalent to living with God on earth. In the mind of the Jewish person, the perfect place to die was within the walls of Jerusalem. To die within the walls of the Holy City meant that one had died with God in His Holy City and had indeed lived a blessed life. Continue reading

Living the Gospel by supporting the Deaf community…

Taavi wasn’t engaged at his school or in extracurricular sports and as a Deaf person, he faced obstacles trying to join his hearing peers. His mom encouraged him to try to participate in the Deaf community. His life changed when he joined a Deaf basketball fun day hosted by Silent Voice and met Mike, Director of the Silent Voice Child and Family Program. He joined a Deaf sports team, began a co-op position with Silent Voice in his 4th year of high school, and was hired as a counselor in the Silent Voice Sign Language Summer day camp. He continues to volunteer at Silent Voice and says, “I’m grateful to ShareLife –supported Silent Voice and want to be a role model for Deaf kids, like Mike was to me.” Last year more than 600 deaf children received help through ShareLife-supported Silent Voice’s Sign Language Summer Camps.

sharelifesmallLiving the Gospel by supporting ShareLife…..

“The ShareLife campaign provides for the needs of our social service agencies, helps to evangelize the Gospel to brothers and sisters in Christ across the world, and supports the education of our clergy. It is important that we continue to support the ShareLife appeal, to provide for the needs of the marginalized both here in our communities and around the world. Sometimes the results are obvious and sometimes they’re invisible but, always they make a tangible difference in the lives of the people we are helping. Please prayerfully consider how you can be supportive today on ShareLife Sunday.”
