Day of Prayer for Vocations ~ Friday, May 4, 2018

On Friday, May 4th, Archbishop Thomas Cardinal Collins has asked all parishes in the Archdiocese to have a day of Prayer for vocations. On that day, we will have Eucharistic Adoration in the Centre Chapel from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM to pray for vocations to married life, the single life, the priesthood, permanent diaconate and men and women religious. Please take time on that day to pray for vocations.

Interview: Paulist Fr. James Haley: “There’s a force that’s with me…”

On the occasion of Paulist Fr. James “Jim” Haley’s 50th anniversary of becoming a priest, we learned about his life in the community. “Looking back, I wouldn’t change it for anything. I mean, how can a shy young man from Northern Nova Scotia ever end up the way I’ve ended up and been where I’ve been, you know, and experienced what I’ve experienced and met the people that I’ve met and lived in areas of the countries that I would never have experienced if not for being a Paulist and a priest?”

Living the Gospel by helping newcomers to Canada

Angie moved to Canada to marry a man she met online. He was not who he seemed; she endured emotional and physical abuse. While he was at work, she started attending language classes at Catholic Cross cultural Services. Staff at CCS connected her with a settlement worker in the women’s program. Angie received the support she needed to exit her violent relationship and live independently, free from abuse. Angie is one of over 3,000 clients helped annually by CCS programs funded by ShareLife.

May 27 is the next ShareLife Sunday.  Please give generously.

Fr. Jim Haley CSP – 50th Anniversary Prayer Cards

In May, Fr. Jim will celebrate the 50th anniversary of his ordination. He has served as pastor of St. Peter’s, and was also in semi-retirement here before the Paulists left Toronto. He now lives at the Paulist parish in Knoxville TN and is serving as temporary pastor for a nearby parish. Two Toronto Paulist Associates will travel to New York on the May long weekend for Fr. Jim’s anniversary and the ordinations of two new Paulists.

If you remember Fr. Jim and would like to assure him of your prayers, you can fill out a card for him. There will be a display and box at the back of the church. We will present the cards to Fr. Jim on May 19th. Here’s a link to more information about Fr. Jim on the Paulist web page: http://www.paulist.org/who-we-are/bio/fr-james-haley-c-s-p/

Living the Gospel by providing for those in need

“One of the core components of our Pastoral Plan is Catholic Outreach in Justice and Love. As a Catholic community we are called to be the hands and face of Jesus in our communities. ShareLife is a tangible way we can put the Gospel value to ‘love one another as I have loved you’ into action. I invite all parishioners to support the mission work of the church by making a sacrifcial gift to ShareLife.” —Thomas Cardinal Collins, Archbishop of Toronto.

Today is ShareLife Sunday. Thank you for your generosity.
