Fourth Sunday of Easter, Second ShareLife Sunday; May 7, 2017

sharelifesmallLiving the Gospel by providing for those in need…

“One of the core components of our Pastoral Plan is Catholic Outreach in Justice and Love.  As a Catholic community we are called to be the hands and face of Jesus in our communities.  One of the ways that we do this is through our annual ShareLife appeal, which provides resources to agencies serving the poor and marginalized not only in our archdiocese, but also around the world.  ShareLife is a tangible way that we can put the Gospel value to love one another as I have loved you into action, and I invite all parishioners to support the mission work of the Catholic church by making a sacrificial gift to ShareLife.” —Thomas Cardinal Collins, Archbishop of Toronto.

Today is ShareLife Sunday – May 7, 2017.  Thank you for your generosity.

Homosexuality, Gender Identity, and the Catholic Faith

“Homosexuality, Gender Identity, and the Catholic Faith: Welcoming and Accompanying with the Heart of Christ”

Fr kevin belgraveA talk by Father Kevin Belgrave at 7:00 pm on Wednesday May 10, 2017 in the Parish Hall.

“Questions of sexual identity in our time are as important as they are challenging. Often the subject of much attention, and tension, both within and outside the Church, they can evoke different reactions in each of us. This talk will allow an opportunity to explore the Catholic vision of the human person, love, and sexuality, and how this vision shapes our response to our brothers and sisters experiencing same-sex attraction or questions of gender identity.”

Archdiocesan Day of Prayer – Friday, May 12, 2017

On this day, Cardinal Collins has asked that we all take the time, as a community, to pray for all vocations; priesthood, religious and consecrated life. During this time, we also ask that you pray for our five soon-to-be priests along with all those who are discerning or who are currently in formation. For more information, please contact your parish office, call the Office of Vocations at 416-968-0997 or email vocations@archtoronto.org

Visit by Fr. Michael Kallock CSP

MichaelKallockOn Friday, May 26th, after the 7:00 Memorial Mass, Fr. Mike Kallock, a Paulist Father who used to minister here at St. Peter’s, will return to the parish for a half hour presentation.

Many Catholics would like to have a greater understanding of the Holy Spirit. Father Mike will speak to us about how the Holy Spirit is the indwelling presence of God in us and the breath of life who enkindles in our hearts the fire of God’s love.

Please plan to attend the Mass and Fr. Mike’s talk, not only to learn more about God, the Holy Spirit, but to catch up with one of our Paulist friends.

The Very First Holy Communion

communionAs many of the young boys and girls in our parish make their First Communion today, the Gospel reading for this Sunday tells us the powerful story of the very first Holy Communion to take place after Jesus rose from the dead. The story of the two disciples on the road to Emmaus shows us the importance of the Eucharist in the life of the Church. In this story we hear that on the very day that Jesus rose from the dead, the first day of the week, that day being a Sunday, Jesus Himself celebrated the Eucharist with His disciples. It was only in His doing this that these two people, who had known Jesus personally in life, were able to recognize Him and see Him present in their lives. This story tells us a great deal about what it means to be Christians and the place that the Eucharist is to have in the life of each Christian. Continue reading
